JOB SUMMARY:

To produce high quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines and procedures accurately and efficiently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Patient Care
    • Prepare the exam room for the day
      1. Ensure MD lenses are clean (20D, 90D and Super Field)
      2. Stock all instruments, note pads, recall/appointment slips, sample medications, and all other supplies needed to complete an exam.
      3. Vital signs-Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, and Blood Pressure
    • Wrap and sterilize instruments
    • Clean procedure room
    • Re-stock supplies in the procedure room
    • Set up Kler-o solution for soaking instruments
    • Notify the site manager of any inventory supply shortages
    • Prepare Consent Forms for procedures
    • Prepare patient for the procedure to include.
    • Have full knowledge of the procedure with the ability to explain the procedure in language the patient can understand, answer all patient questions, reassure and comfort the patient during the procedure.
    • Room patients for exams
    • Assist in keeping the doctor on schedule
  2. Documentation
    • Learn, understand and spell ophthalmology terminology and pharmacology.
    • Use only approved NWEC abbreviations.
    • Comply with all Medicare rules and regulations in all areas of chart documentation.
    • Complete all charts checking for MD signature, scribe signature, all coding and billing is complete, follow up appointment and testing information is complete; follow through on A-scan and surgery scheduling needed.
    • Send chart to the front desk, surgery scheduler or staff member for necessary tests.
    • End of day close rooms according to NWEC policy, restock all items used and return magazines to waiting room.
    • Assist with mentoring of new scribing staff.
    • Perform all duties as assigned.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Interact with Clinic Manager, MD’s, OD’s and Executive Director
  • Interact with other members of the clinical team and management.
