What is Amblyopia?

Be Eye Wise and know that amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, causes reduced vision in one eye, but not the other. Amblyopia occurs when one eye doesn’t properly transmit visual signals to the brain. The brain ignores these signals and the eye becomes weak and suffers a loss of vision.

Treating Amblyopia involves covering the stronger eye to strengthen the weaker eye. If amblyopia is not treated before age eight, the vision loss will most likely be permanent.
