If you schedule a routine eye exam with us, and you have a vision plan, you will be responsible for paying for the appointment. It may include an ophthalmic assistant or ophthalmic technician completing the following portions of the exam:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A health and medication history<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A vision history<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A refraction or visual acuity test<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the appointment, the doctor may determine if the problems you are experiencing are normal age-related changes to your vision, or are disease-related. He or she may order additional testing, refer you to another doctor or specialist, or recommend treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An Eye Exam completed by the ophthalmologist or an optometrist includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Examination of the external parts of your eyes, including the whites of your eyes, the iris, pupil, eyelids and eyelashes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A dilated internal eye exam allows the doctor to observe the retina and optic nerve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They may test the fluid pressure within your eyes to check for signs of glaucoma.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the doctor\u2019s diagnosis is medical, such as cataracts or conjunctivitis, it will be billed as a Medical Eye Exam. If the diagnosis is related to normal age-related changes in your vision, such as nearsightedness or astigmatism, it will be billed as a Routine Eye Exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Health Insurance vs. Vision Insurance: What\u2019s the Difference?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Understanding which insurance applies to your eye care visit can feel confusing.
