Dr. Kari Fossum is a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist and adult strabismus specialist joining Northwest Eye. She offers a wide range of routine and specialized care, including treatment for pediatric cataracts, amblyopia, and complex eye misalignments. Her expertise extends to both surgical and non-surgical solutions, ensuring patients of all ages receive individualized, compassionate care.
Dr. Fossum earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and minored in both Global Health and European Studies. She went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed her internship in general surgery and residency in ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was recognized with the Resident Benchmark Award for Exemplary Clinical and Surgical Care. She then pursued a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the University of Michigan.
With a passion for advancing the field, Dr. Fossum has authored peer-reviewed publications in Ophthalmology and Journal of AAPOS and presented research at national meetings, including the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), where she received the Best in Show Poster Award. Her research interests include pediatric ophthalmology screening, strabismus, and surgical outcomes.
Dr. Fossum is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She is excited to partner with patients and families to help them achieve their best possible vision and quality of life.
