Questions about LASIK eye surgery or other forms of refractive eye surgery? Be Eye Wise by reviewing these answers to the most commonly asked LASIK questions. Northwest Eye offers LASIK to the Golden Valley, Minnetonka, Maple Grove, Wayzata, and surrounding Minnesota areas.
Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, more commonly referred to as LASIK, is a procedure that corrects your vision by reshaping the cornea with a laser. By permanently reshaping your cornea (the part of your eye that refracts light onto your lens), LASIK improves visual acuity and reduces or eliminates your need for glasses and contact lenses.
It sounds a little scary, but refractive surgery is considered to be a safe procedure. However, it should not be viewed as a “one-size-fits-all” process. At Northwest Eye, you have access to some of the top surgeons in the state who will guide you through the entire process. Your surgeon will thoroughly examine and map the shape of your eyes to determine what type (if any) of refractive surgery is appropriate for you. Northwest Eye LASIK surgeons have a long-term interest in your eye health, so you can trust our team to help you make the right choice.
To qualify for LASIK, you need to meet these basic requirements:
- At least 18 years of age
- No history of eye infection or injury
- Demonstrate refractive stability for at least the previous year
- Realistic expectations for the procedure
Northwest Eye Clinic started one of the first LASIK centers in the state, and our surgeons have performed thousands of successful LASIK and other refractive surgeries. After your consultation, you’ll meet with the same surgeon for all pre- and post-operative care.
We use the most up-to-date technology in our state-of-the-art surgical center. This includes a tracking laser that monitors the movement of your eye. Using the “Star Wars” missile-tracking technology, the laser beam follows your eye during any micro-movements. If a patient happens to look away during the procedure, the laser halts treatment until the eye is back in the correct position.
There’s no guarantee. Everybody begins to lose some ability to focus on close objects around age 40. You may need glasses for reading as you age. This natural change (called presbyopia) cannot be corrected by refractive surgery unless monovision is an option for you.
It’s not necessarily required. Some patients choose to have LASIK done only on one eye or to under correct one eye (this is called monovision). This allows you to see near objects with one eye and far objects with the other. This approach may be a good choice if a similar route has been tried in contact lenses prior to surgery.
We competitively price our services and pride ourselves in fair and honest pricing. You won’t be shocked with any hidden fees. Ultimately, the cost of your surgery depends on the type of procedure. The complete cost includes all post-operative care for six months. Financing as low as zero percent is available with approved credit. Your consultant will cover the most current financing rates at your evaluation.
