The IC-8 IOLs: A New Lens Technology for Cataract Patients

Posted by: Northwest Eye in Cataract Surgery, News on July 11, 2023

For over 50 years, the doctors at Northwest Eye have been dedicated to adapting new technologies to help patients obtain healthier, clearer vision. We are proud to continually offer our cataract patients the latest advancements and treatment options available. This month we are pleased to announce Dr. Jesse Dovich placed Northwest Eye’s first Apthera IC-8 IOLs, a new lens technology that offers several visual benefits to cataract patients.

What Is Cataract Surgery?
During cataract surgery, the natural cloudy lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. With this process, patients have the unique opportunity to evaluate how they’d like their vision to be following surgery, as there are many different lens options available.

Apthera IC-8 IOLs
The IC-8 is a specific type of intraocular lens that is designed to help cataract patients achieve a clear, continuous range of near and intermediate vision without significantly compromising the distance vision. Dr. Dovich discussed how this advancement in cataract surgery can help improve patients’ vision.

“This new lens from AcuFocus is an excellent option for surgical patients who want fantastic intermediate/near vision without the glare or halos of trifocal technology. This technology is available for patients with no significant astigmatism, mild or moderate astigmatism, and even can help those with irregular corneas, such as someone with a history of prior Radial Kertatotomy (RK).  In an eye affected by irregularities from RK, I truly believe the IC-8 lens will help these eyes achieve their best visual potential,”

Jesse Dovich, M.D.

Benefits of the new IC-8 cataract lens technology:

  1. Extended Range of Vision:
The IC-8 cataract lens is created to improve patients’ vision and provide patients with a broader range of clear vision following surgery.
  2. Reduced Dependency on Glasses:
By providing clearer vision at various distances, the IC-8 lens could reduce dependency on corrective eyewear like glasses and contact lenses.
  3.  Enhanced Vision:
The IC-8 is designed to give patients sharper and clearer vision compared to traditional monofocal lenses.
  4. Improved Visual Comfort:
The IC-8 lens aims to improve visual comfort by minimizing visual disturbances like glare and halos.
  5. Visual Satisfaction: Studies show that there is a high level of patient satisfaction with the IC-8 lens as many patients are satisfied with their improved visual outcome and their reduced dependence on glasses.

Are you a candidate for this IC-8 Lens Technology?
Although the IC-8 lens offers several potential benefits, some patients may not be candidates for this particular treatment option. Each patient should consult with their eye doctor to see what lens options are recommended. The surgeon will consider factors such as the patient’s eye health, dilated pupil size, visual needs, and lifestyle before discussing the benefits and options available. Schedule an evaluation with your Northwest Eye cataract surgeon to see if the IC-8 cataract lens is a right fit for you.
